Program Description:
This 41.00 semester credit hour (720 hour) program requires 45 weeks of training. There are no prerequisites for this program of instruction. The program is divided into six Environmental Technology modules to provide extensive knowledge in Occupational Safety Practices, Industrial Hygiene Practices, Hazardous Materials Packaging, Storage and Transportation, Hazardous Materials Practices, 40-Hour Hazwoper, and Environmental Computer and Career Development.
Program Objectives:
This is an intensive program designed to provide basic knowledge in Federal Environmental and Safety Laws; Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations in Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations (29 CFR) Parts 1910 and 1926 covering occupational health and safety and hazardous materials. The course covers the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations in 40 CFR covering treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous materials and wastes; and Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations in 49 CFR covering the labeling, packaging and transportation of hazardous materials. Title 8 California Code of Regulation (8 CCR) covering Cal/OSHA regulations on occupational health and safety, and hazardous materials; and 22 CCR covering environmental regulations on hazardous materials and wastes.
Occupational Objectives:
Graduates will be qualified for entry-level positions in a wide variety of positions in the environmental, hazardous materials and occupational health and safety industries. Successful completion of the program will equip a graduate with the necessary knowledge and tools to recognize and evaluate occupational health and safety hazards; characterize, handle, store, transport and prepare for disposal of hazardous materials and wastes; respond to hazardous materials emergencies in compliance with government regulations. A potential list of job titles include Hazardous Materials Technician, Emergency Response Technician, Environmental Sampling Technician, Hazardous Material Transportation, Occupational Health and Safety Technician, Laboratory Technician, Hazardous Waste Treatment Technician, Environmental Enforcement Technician and Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Module A: Occupational / Safety Practices
The student is exposed to an overview of examinations and field practical for the OSHA Act, OSHA and CAL-OSHA regulations, General Safety Hazards, Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, Confined Space Entry, Hazard Communications and Respiratory Protection.
Module B: Industrial Hygiene Practices
The student is exposed to an overview of examinations and field practical in Industrial Hygiene Mathematics, Anatomy and Physiology, Toxicology, Occupational Health Hazards and Industrial Hygiene Instrumentations.
Module C: Hazardous Materials Practices
The student will learn regulations concerning the IPP (Injury and Illness Prevention Plan) in the environment this is a regulation from the OSHA/Cal OSHA for any company that uses or handles hazardous waste. The graduate will have the skills to analyze the area for safety and prevention of accidents, ergonomics and be able to hold a safety meeting with employees and management.
Module E: Hazardous Materials Packaging, Storage and Transportation
The student will have an overview of examination and field practical in Hazardous Materials Packaging, Storage and Transportation
Module F: 40-Hour Hazwoper
The student will have knowledge and field practical to complete tasks requiring 40 hour Hazwoper certification.
Module G: Environmental Computers
Students are introduced to specific components of a PC. The functions use and care. The student also will have basic knowledge of software, such as Word, Excel, WordPerfect for windows and lotus spreadsheet while working on their IIPP report that is taught in the Transportation module of this program. Students are trained on the various functions and commands. Additionally, students are exposed to the various function and usage of Windows
Module H: Employment Development
In this module, the student will discover their emotional, intellectual and physical potential. Students will learn that they can improve their lives by changing the way they think about themselves and then acting accordingly. Through a process of learning and self-examination, students discover their values, increase their commitment to personal goals and challenge themselves to grow and change.
